프랑스 태생의 Henri Matisse (1869 ~ 1954)는 painter로 널리 알려져 있지만 draughtsman, printmaker, sculptor로서도 유명합니다. 그는 Picasso, Marcel Duchamp와 더불어 20세기 조형미술에 있어 painting, sculptur 분야에서 혁신적인 개발을 이끈 한 사람으로 초기 Fauve를 표방했으나 프랑스 미술의 고전적인 전통을 고수하려 했습니다.
