프랑스 태생의 Paul Gauguin (1848 ~ 1903)은 Post-Impressionist artist로 Somerset Maugham(1874 ~ 1965)의 소설<The Moon and Sixpence>는 고갱의 삶에서 모티브를 따온 것인데, 그만큼 예술과 현실 사이에서 괴로와 했던 고갱은 문명을 뒤로 한 채 Tahiti로 떠나 강렬한 색채의 실험으로 modern art에 많은 영향을 미치게 됩니다.
