미국 태생의 Victor Skrebneski(1929 ~ )는 the School of The Art Institute of Chicago(1943), Institute of Design, Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago(1947-49)에서 학업을 마친 후 1952년 Chicago에 자신의 studio를 세우고 Estee Lauder, Chanel, Saks Fifth Avenue 등의 고객을 위한 사진 작업 및 수많은 ad campaign에 참여한 photographer입니다.

미국 뉴욕에서 graffiti writer로서 화가의 길로 접어든 Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960 ~ 1988)는 작업을 하는 동안 늘 예술 자체보다는 삶에 대해 생각하려고 노력했다고 합니다. 1977년부터 80년대 초반까지 뉴욕 맨하튼 다운타운 거리에 등장했던 SAMO© 라는 꼬리표가 있는, 다분히 세태를 조롱한 graffiti의 대부분이 Basquiat와 관련이 있는데 일단의 비평가에 의해서는 ‘고야(Francisco Goya)’에도 비견되던 그가 1987년 앤디 워홀(Andy Warhol)의 죽음에 크게 가슴 아파하면서 그동안 그토록 끊으려 했던 헤로인 과용으로 스물 일곱 짧디 짧은 생을 마감합니다.
